DIY Hack: Positive Parent Sticky Sign

Thursday, October 16, 2014
My door decor was looking pretty poor...
So after our teacher workday meetings, I went for an update!
I wanted some positivity and thought this would be fun because it was sort of interactive!
I'm always stumped when it comes to new bulletin board or door designs... especially at the high school level. I came up with this bulletin board design really centered around school community building, and it's applicable to all grade levels!
Be ready to hit the ground running as your school year starts from the moment you get parents in the door. Start developing a positive rapport with them by tapping into what THEY see in their student before you even know their student!

How To Look 2 Months Ahead with a Master Calendar: Part 1

Thursday, September 25, 2014
Inspired by a need for a big group calendar and a desire to incorporate more washi tape into my life, our department decided an oversized, easily updated calendar would be perfect use of our old expo board in our conference room.
I purchased a variety of Scotch washi tape from Target.

DIY: Extreme Office Makeover

I knew if I didn't redecorate my office over the summer, it wouldn't get done once the school year started. I gathered things throughout the summer that I wanted to put in my office. Here's the grand tour...

DIY Hack: Rock Your Tests Bulletin Board

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
Long time, no update. The initial shock of the school year is settling in, and we've hit the ground running. Counselors still work in the summer, but we somehow still didn't find time to update this old bulletin board. (I should have taken a "before" picture-- had to have been from 2001 or so.)

This bulletin board is in our Conference Room hung right above a row of computers our students use when signing up for SAT, ACT, and virtual school (among other things). With some help from a couple students this morning (Teacher Cadets- got to train them how to make a bulletin board for their future classrooms, right?), I used things we already had been given for the year from PSAT, SAT, and ACT to made a new board come to life!

Do you have any bulletin boards that stay up year round? What do you put on them?

Embrace Your To-Do Lists

Friday, January 10, 2014
We've survived a full week back from a break.
Mornings for some reason seem earlier, and the chaos for some reason feels multiplied.

Our semester has almost ended which means craziness around the guidance office:
Schedules changing, report cards coming out, End of Course exams.
State career reports, HSAP (state graduation test) ordering deadlines.
When final grades come out, we've got to be sure kids are in the correct grade level and credit recovery classes. Lots of deadlines, and it's imperative EVERYTHING is done RIGHT THIS SECOND.
